Fantasy Football Week 9 Rankings: Wide Receivers

October 31st, 2010 proved to be a day where wide receivers once considered dead (fantasy wise) proved to be very much alive.

Many fantasy owners were tricked and few were treated when wide receivers Brandon Tate, Nate Washington and Darrius Heyward-Bey had magnificent performances, each placing in the top 10 fantasy scorers at the wide receiver position.

Sticking with the trick or treat theme, Reggie Wayne owners felt tricked after a low scoring performance in a great match up against the Houston Texans.  Marques Colston owners who decided to stick with him were treated to a 13-fantasy point performance in Week 8.

It will be interesting to see what surprises are in store for Week 9, especially finding out which wide receivers still have some fantasy value left in the tank.  Let’s take a look at the Fantasy Football Week 9 Wide Receiver Rankings.

1. Roddy White (Atlanta Falcons) vs. Tampa Bay

White has had an amazing season so far.  He has been the second most targeted wide receiver (11.7), has the most receptions (54) and the second most yards (747) in the league this season.

White faces a Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ defense that has allowed only 10.1 receptions a game this season, but White had a combined 123 yards and two touchdowns in two meetings against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last season.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are likely to find that the only thing scarier than Roddy White is a well-rested Roddy White.

Point Projection: 21 points

2. Hakeem Nicks (New York Giants) @ Seattle

Move over Stevie, you are no longer the most famous Nicks, at least from a fantasy perspective.

Nicks is having an outstanding season so far, gathering the ninth most receptions (45), the 11th most receiving yards (525) and second most touchdowns (8) in the league this season.

Nicks should have no problem producing this week against a lousy Seattle Seahawks secondary that has given up 22 fantasy points to opposing wide receivers this season.  Expect another great game for Nicks.

Point Projection: 17 points

3. Calvin Johnson (Detroit Lions) vs. New York Jets

Is there anything Johnson can’t do?  Anyone else picture him walking down a street and saving random kittens stuck in trees all day?

Johnson had nine receptions for 101 yards and three touchdowns in a win against the Washington Redskins on Sunday.  Johnson now has back-to-back 100+ yard games and seven touchdowns over the last four games and has become the fantasy star everyone expected him to be.

Johnson faces a New York Jets’ team that has allowed 12 receptions a game and has given up 23.7 fantasy points a game to wide receivers this season.

Expect Megatron to continue to be a force when he’s on the field.

Point Projection: 17 points
