We hear that the Chiefs' reasons for shipping DE Alex Magee to Tampa Bay at the NFL trade deadline were two-fold. For one, Magee had been an extreme disappointment during his short time in Kansas City, and the team was simply ready to cut its losses. A third-round pick in 2009 whom GM Scott Pioli saw as a good fit for the Chiefs' 3-4 scheme, the Purdue product played in 15 games as a rookie but wasn't very noticeable, chipping in with just eight tackles and two sacks. This season, he saw action in only two games and made two tackles. Secondly, K.C. is happy with its situation at the defensive end position. Although there isn't much depth, the club still has faith in injured '09 first-rounder Tyson Jackson, and it has been pleasantly surprised by the contributions of Shaun Smith and Wallace Gilberry. Smith has 16 tackles on the season, while Gilberry has two sacks. Getting even a late-round pick for Magee was more than they could have expected.
