It certainly doesn't reflect in their 2-5 record, but the Chargers have been one of the league's premier defenses in 2010. Not only are they not allowing yardage through the air, but they're also pressuring opposing passers at a tremendous rate — even without Shawne Merriman. Not surprisingly, OLB Shaun Phillips and his seven sacks have been a big part of the Bolts' pass rush, but another major reason for the defensive showcase has been the improved play of ILB Kevin Burnett, who we're told "looks awesome." Finally healthy after missing time last season with an ankle injury and undergoing offseason neck surgery, Burnett already has a career-high five sacks, a team-leading 38 tackles, an interception and two forced fumbles. While the linebacking corps has been riddled with injuries, he has been a steady presence and serious playmaker in the middle. Any talk of San Diego cutting ties with the 27-year-old veteran after his disappointing '09 has long been forgotten.
