Vikings' rookie report: Week Six

Here's a look at how the Vikings' rookies fared in Week Six:

CB Chris Cook (second round): Inactive against the Cowboys. The Vikings could have used him; with Cedric Griffin out for the season, they turned to Lito Sheppard, who was responsible for all three Cowboys scores. Cook is battling a meniscus issue, his second knee injury this season, but could be back this week. If so, he'd immediately step in for Sheppard, who wore out his welcome on defense. Cook has the size to match up with bigger receivers, the way Griffin often did.

RB Toby Gerhart (second round): It appeared that for the first time this season, Gerhart would be a healthy scratch. But apparently a last-minute change of heart (by Brad Childress?) had Gerhart playing and Cook sitting another week. Gerhart played only one snap and took a handoff four yards on what could be described as an awkward exchange and run. The only reason he even played that one snap was because Adrian Peterson got hurt late. Gerhart has gotten off to a slow start this season offensively and isn't contributing on special teams to speak of, either.

DE Everson Griffen (fourth round): He has been inactive for every game so far. The trade of Jayme Mitchell only moved him up one small notch on the totem pole, and the way things are going, Griffen will not play a game this season as long as the Vikings have anything to play for.

OG Chris DeGeare (fifth round): Played the previous two games before being inactive against the Cowboys. He'll be an every-week decision, in or out of the lineup based on injuries, depth, etc. The Vikings viewed him as something of a project and are not displeased with his progress so far.

QB Joe Webb (sixth round): Has been the emergency QB for all five games. A major work in progress with interesting potential.
