Clinton Portis said on Tuesday that he will likely miss the Redskins' Week Five game vs. the Packers due to a groin injury he suffered in Week Four.
Appearing on a Washington radio show, Portis said, "I don't think the team would even let me attempt to play on Sunday. I think they know I'm a speedy recoverer, but who knows?"
When the running back was asked if he could play Sunday, Portis said: "I don't think so."
Head coach Mike Shanahan, who coached Portis in 2002-03 when both were with the Broncos, said he knew something was wrong last Sunday when the back took himself out of the game.
"Usually a guy like that doesn't go out of the game," said Shanahan. "He stays in as long as he can."
The way we see it
Portis' injury means the 'Skins will likely start Ryan Torain vs. Green Bay. Torain had 18-70-1 in Week Four, but he lacks the explosiveness Portis brings to the Washington attack.
